How to Invest in the Stock Market for Your Retirement [Video]

Preparing for your Retirement Through Saving and Investing

Retirement is probably one of the most prepared for moment in the lives of every person. It's probably the most awaited one as well. Schools and parents teach the kids to stay at school, get good grades and get a good paying job with great benefits. That's the popular dogma. However, with the increasing percentage of people getting laid off due to the recession and the unemployment percentage rate increasing, is your retirement still the best option?

Investing in the Stock Market for Your Retirement
In his books, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki mentioned about saving and investing in the stock market. But if you're someone who doesn't have much idea about how t it's done, you might want to stay conservative and head to the nearest branch of your trusted bank instead.

However, if you're really serious about saving for your retirement, you might want to invest in the stock market. And you might want to do it now!

But how do you get started?
How much will you invest?
Where will you invest?

Looks like lot of questions to be answered and what is it I've heard that the stock market is just for rich people?

Nope, definitely not!

It's for the people who wanna get rich!

Below is a video answering some of the questions you might have in mind and to help you get started.

Blogging Beyond Writing

Networking Beyond the Net

I take pride in having the best network on my Facebook and Twitter accounts because I always believe that my network is my net worth. Having the best network isn't enough though. To build a real connection, it requires a link beyond the ink created by the internet.

Visayas Blogging Summit 2010

Then came the Visayas Blogging Summit organized by the Iloilo Bloggers Organization, where all the bloggers from the Visayas region feasted for a day and got to listen from renowned bloggers in the country, get to hear what they got to say about the future of social media, how we could make money online and how blogging can help in advocacy.

Filamerians from Capiz, who also attended the said event, gave a detailed presentation of the events and list of speakers during the said summit. Check out their post of who said what here.

“Social media is not a media. The key is to listen, engage, and build relationships.” - David Alston

The PEBA Awards Night 2010 with Ico, Jigz, (I'm sorry I didn't get his name), me and Sir Nereus)

Then I got invited to be one of the judges for the PEBA 2010 wherein I was so privileged to be part of the great event that gives award to the OFW bloggers and their supporters with the theme for this year: "Strengthening the OFW Families: Stronger Homes for a Stronger Nation."

Though I had to travel from Iloilo to Manila just to attend the said awarding ceremony, it was such a fun time to get to meet the bloggers, organizers, winners and supporters of the said event. I got to meet co-bloggers Antonio Carranza, Jr. of, Marvin the Kikilabotz Blogger, Unnie and many others.

It was also a great experience to get to meet Susan Ople and Carl Ople. The latter gave a quick keynote that pretty much encompasses the reason why we need to blog and how we could use the new media in helping build a much stronger nation and better place to live in. To all the winners, congratulations. Networking is the Best Way of Learning

I would always remember what a highschool friend told me that you could get to learn from everyone you meet everyday. I'd say, you could get to learn lots of things from those who have been through a lot of things in life. Make the most of your learning through networking.

10 Fun Things I Can Do with a new Lenovo Laptop

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and let Lenovo IdeaPad G460 be the change.

Hi everyone! Meet me and Meagan. Yeah my laptop has got a name. We've been through a lot of things together. We've traveled various places together (both virtually and physically), we've shared myriads of thoughts and had a lot of great times together. Meagan was too perfect. Until just recently, she stopped doing things as efficient as she used to be. No matter how much I enjoyed being with her, there comes a point when change becomes a necessity.

Just as great power comes with great responsibility, great responsibilities can only be done with great powers. One needs to let go of that which is good for that which is better. Therefore, I guess it's about time for me and Lenovo IdeaPad G460 to make things better.

Lenovo notebooks are awesome. I am awesome. We could do awesome things together!

With a whole new Lenovo IdeaPad G460, I would be able to do things that me and Meagan used to do together, only faster, better and more efficiently. With the pretty impressive specs that Lenovo has, as per reviewed by Pinoy Tech Blog, Meagan's awesomeness couldn't come close to that! Not even the first time we've met. Trust me, the highest rating she's ever got was probably 5. Therefore, below are 10 fun things I can do with a new Lenovo IdeaPad G460.

1. Blogging anytime, anywhere - only better!

Me and Meagan enjoy blogging together. However, since it has gotten a little bit slow and too bulky, I need a laptop that's equipped with powerful processors, plenty of RAM, an advanced graphics card and a beautiful display. Obviously, Meagan doesn't have that anymore. Lenovo IdeaPad G460 has those features, and we just gotta be doing awesome things together!

2. Watch movies while traveling.

I love to watch movies and I love to travel. Or both things altogether! I need a premium entertainment and multimedia laptop that has advanced graphics card, beautiful display and has blazing speed. Fortunately for me, The Lenovo G460 features Intel’s new Core i3 and Core i5 processor that enables its user to perform multiple tasks at a blazing speed and flawlessly. Yes, no lagging while watching HD movies and definitely something you can carry anywhere, anytime!

3. Play games anywhere.
I'm not really into gaming. Well you bet! It's mainly because Meagan wouldn't allow me! She's too nervous about me exhausting her capacity, her RAM's too limited and the storage is close to empty. Well not entirely, but you get it, my old laptop's features are simply not enough for gaming.

However, with Lenovo IdeaPad G460, I shall have no trouble playing the latest computer games and with its DDR3 RAM and storage capacity, I will not have to worry I don't have enough storage or in the middle of the game, it might just suddenly stop!

4. There's always a room for almost everything.

Meagan would often complain about me putting in too much information, too much data on her storage. I needed some space for my photos, articles and movies. Good thing is that there's plenty of storage space in the Lenovo G460 as well. Users can opt for a 5400-RPM hard drive in 250GB, 320GB, or 500GB; that should be more than enough to store all of your favorite movies, music, documents, and photos.

I've heard that unlike many other consumer notebooks, the Lenovo G460 features a high-end graphics card, which will provide excellent viewing of video, animations, games, and more. The display – a 14-inch WXGA LED backlit TFT screen with a native resolution of 1366×768-pixels – does its share of work, too. The images pumped through the NVIDIA graphics card come out on the screen in crisp detail and with near-flawless color. Alright, I guess I already mentioned about needing great graphics and storage on the second reason. Nuff said. ;-)

5. Connect to my wireless network.

I wanna be able to access the Internet as well as printers, shared files like music or video, and other resources at home, in the office or wherever I would need them to be. Meagan could no longer read my SD card whenever I try to take some of my photos and upload them on Facebook. Alright that's not necessarily wireless but you see, me and Meagan have lost some sort of connection when it lost it's connectivity ability.

6. Heads up on the headlines.

Using an RSS (rich site summary) newsfeed reader, I could easily subscribe to free news services and other Web-based content that will automatically download on my computer. With a new Lenovo IdeaPad G460, I would be able to read news and blogs that I have subscribed to and be notified when they "write here, write now".

7. Easy connectivity and mobility

With a new Lenovo IdeaPad G460, aside from the fact that it has got some pretty sleek design that makes it so adorable and makes me wanting to bring it along with me anywhere I go, I could easily read, answer emails on the plane, on bus, or wherever I may go. I could get all my social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and other sites opened in a heartbeat and connect with friends in no time!

8. Continue working despite the power interruption

The best thing about all laptops is that I could continue working even if there's a sudden power interruption. The thing is, Meagan's battery wouldn't let me. Being so practical (oo na, kuripot) that I am, I avoid buying a new battery like plague. Therefore, I would need a whole new Lenovo IdeaPad G460 in order for me to keep doing what I've been doing, without any sort of interruption.

9. Download photos from my camera and listen to the music

Oh life with the digital media. But what if Meagan's memory card reader wouldn't let me, or the USB port aren't working well?

Well, God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and let Lenovo IdeaPad G460 be the change.

10. Picture snappin for easy uploadin!

Meagan wouldn't let me take pictures with its built-in camera. Well it would, but you wouldn't wanna see the pictures because I'm telling you, you could barely make out the images. With Lenovo IdeaPad G460's built-in webcam that supports the Veriface software which is standard in new Lenovo notebooks and empowers security for your system, I wouldn't just picture snappin but also have greater security as this feature allows the users to login through the image captured by the camera. It verifies the distinct facial profile of the user and it can detect if an unauthorized person is trying to login. What could be more cool than that!

Lenovo are pretty awesome laptops. I'm pretty awesome, wouldn't it be cool if we could do cool things together? Right, Lenovo and Yugatech?

Do I need to say more? This post is my official entry to Yugatech's Contest: Lenovo-YugaTech Laptop Give-away. Cmon, you know with Lenovo IdeaPad G460, we could go great things together!

That's a photo of me excitedly opening the webcam sent by Standard Chartered Bank. I am hoping you would paint my face with the same glee by letting me open a Lenovo IdeaPad G460 this time!

How to Cancel your PPLIC (Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Company) And Get your Refund!

If you're one of the many unfortunate people who have been convinced to get an insurance policy from PPLIC (Philippine Prudential Life Insurance Company) but wish to cancel it, below are just some of the steps that I have taken for faster cancellation of my policy and get my refund from the said company.

How to Cancel PPLIC Policy and Get Refund

1. Go to the branch where you got your policy and submit a Letter of Cancellation stating your reason for doing so. Again, the sooner you have the policy cancelled, the soon you will get your refund.

2. Have your cancellation letter received by the manager and get a copy of the said letter. Make sure that you keep a copy of all the documents that you surrendered and let them sign the document as they receive so you will have a proof that they actually received it.

3. Request for a new Statement of Account which states, "Canceled upon inception".
You will also receive a letter of confirmation that your policy has been cancelled (as per requested on your letter of cancellation) several days after the documents have been forwarded to their main office (especially for those who are in the provincial areas).

4. File a dispute report to your Credit Card Company and attach the Statement of Account and Cancellation Letter. This will ensure that the amount would not be credited to your bill.

For Those Who Paid through Debit Card (ATM) or Cash

You simply need to follow almost the same procedures except the fourth step. Instead, you will need to withdraw all the money you have left on the account but do not let the account close! (You will need it because it is where they would refund or charge back your money).

In my case, my ATM card is where my payroll is so it's kinda difficult to control the cashflow income in the ATM account unless I try to talk with our accounting department about putting my salary on hold as to prevent the PPLIC from deducting monthly premiums from my account anymore. If you're not into such situation, then you would only need to wait 30-45 working days to get your money refunded to your account or charged back to your credit card account.

Got my Refund from PPLIC in less than 30 Days!

I got my refund in less than 30 days. Feel free to read more on this post for details. If you want to know more I got convinced into getting the policy and want to share your experiences too, so you can warn others, read this post and leave your comments.

If you still have questions, feel free to connect with me using this page instead of emailing me because it's the best way to get in touch with me. Best of luck in getting your insurance policy cancelled and money refunded!

Winning in Losing in Standard Chartered Bank's World's Coolest Intern Competition

The results have been up and I couldn't be happier. Katherine has been super friendly and has consistently provided her pitch as to how she would make saving more social. The runner ups are Farah Sidek and Sarah Chong, respectively.

For several weeks, each one of the Top 10 have created various creative campaigns to show how each one is deserving to be the World's Coolest Intern. When me, Farah and Katherine were messaging each other, we all agreed that whosoever wins, truly deserves it. It looks like the Social Media Wizards of Oz were right.

In a competition, you can only expect two things: You either win, or you win big.

There are no losers in this game. The #wciTop10 are all winners, the #wciTop23 and all others that participated in the contest because just like what I experienced, we had to battle against procrastination and self-doubt that maybe we were not good enough for the position. However, the moment we passed our application, we have risen and triumphant over the doubts and all that may have prevented us from joining and believing in ourselves.

In the eyes of our supporters, we are the coolest, we are the best. Getting to the Top 10 means a lot already. It is a badge that we could forever be proud and be grateful of. It's just that, Katherine has shine the most and is considered by Standard Chartered Bank to be the best candidate for that specific position.

A Big Thanks to All Who Supported Me All the Way

We learn more from our failures than from our success

With all the support that I got from the people that I look up to, I have felt that I am already a winner. People who do not usually listen or notice me, started to and that's just something that's beyond my comprehension. Standard Chartered Breeze has indeed empowered and inspired everyone who have participated in any way. The bank hasn't only pioneered in an effective hiring campaign but has created such an opportunity and impact  that would always be remembered.

What's Next...

Just like what I've previously mentioned, life goes on with me. I would still be the Jonha that works in the same office, eats the same food but my network has got only gotten bigger. And oh, did I mention that I got invited to be one of the judges for the PEBA Awards Night on the 16th of December in Greenhills? I know, I couldn't have been noticed by the organizers hadn't I made it to the Top 10.

Standard Chartered Breeze, I may not have won the title "World's Coolest Intern" but I have already won thousands of hearts.

What more could I ask for?

Social Media Wizards of Oz - Katherine Liew and Farah Sidek

The Standard Chartered Breeze's quest for the World's Coolest Intern has brought together a pool of great and talented social media addicts from all over the world in 64 cities and over 1,190 countries. Just like in every competition, the number was reduced to Top 23 finalists then trimmed down to Top 10. It must have been a very difficult decision for the Breeze Team to choose the ultimate World's Coolest Intern as each of the candidates are highly talented and influential in every way.

As the day of final judgment comes close, Standard Chartered Breeze asked the remaining 10 to look for bloggers that would tell about as to why a particular candidate that they support deserves to be the World's Coolest Intern. I wanna take this opportunity to give a shout out to the two of the most engaging, amicable and highly creative Top 10 finalists from Australia. While I admire each and every one in the Top 10, it is Farah Sidek and Katherine Liew who eagerly collaborated with me and see if we could have a 3-way swap of interviews and tell more about each other. We then decided that Farah would write about me, Katherine would write about Farah and I would write about Katherine. Farah always comes up with brilliant and fun ideas. Besides, I have had some quick conversation with both of them on Facebook (as awesomeness couldn't be limited to 140 characters sometimes!) through Wall and chat.

Alright, without further ado, let me take you to a much closer look at the Social Media Wizards of Oz.

Katherine Liew is a law student from Adelaide, South Australia who is so talented in managing her time between her social life, school and fashion shows! She runs fashion blog called Caught Couture and is not afraid to do things differently. When I noticed that Standard Chartered Breezed missed to put a link to her video entry that made her become part of the League of Top 10, I immediately direct messaged them and requested to have it fixed and I was very glad I did because she has done an excellent job in her Facebook Stalker (Teenage Dirtbag cover)

Among the #wciTop10, Kath has consistently given her pitches about how she could make saving more social. With Katherine donning her mom's trendy boots, don't you just agree that this girl doesn't just have the wits but is also loaded with tons of creative ideas to make mobile banking and social media in general more fun and fashionable?!

Not gonna lie, this video got me riveted with her fun and contagious smile. Farah Sidek is filled with lots of brilliant ideas as she consistently keeps the #wci feeds busy with her fun facts.

Farah isn't only oozing with creative ideas but she also has the heart that reaches out not only to her supporters but also to her competitors. She would dig about every detail she could lay her hands on and share interesting and sometimes odd facts about each one of the #wciTop10.

Farah has myriad of interests ranging from old cameras, Apple gadgets, Moleskines, playing Floorball, watching movies, Tetris, and reading Penguin books.

Can her creativity and fun personality make her the World's Coolest Intern? We can never tell until the result's out. One thing is for sure, the contest has brought together many talented social media strategists that are not only good in conveying their messages through various latest sharing platforms, but individuals that are highly engaging, interesting and naturally born leaders and influencers.

No matter what the results will be, we all are winners in the hearts of our supporters and the competition has already helped us to learn lots of things, realizations and opened various doors that couldn't have been achieved in any other ways. Best of luck to all the #wciTop10!

Katherine Liew is the World's Coolest Intern! :)
First Runner-Up: Farah Sidek
Second Runner-Up: Sarah Chong

Stopped Tweeting and Started Relaxing at Damires Hills Resort

The Damires Hills Resort - A Fun Place to Relax and Walk with the Nature

Walk with the Nature in Damires Hills - What a fun way to spend your weekend!

Amidst all the excitement and frenzy over  the World's Coolest Intern Top 10 result released last Friday by @StanChartBreeze, I decided to take a break and relax for a bit. Me and my Callbox friends went to Damires Hills Resort in Janiuay, Iloilo for our team building.

Cottage in Damires Hills Resort
Now isn't that a Paradise on Earth?

Damires Hills Resort - A Paradise in Development

The property is located in the peaceful and lovely town of Janiuay which is approximately an hour away from the heart of the city. Just when our jeepney stopped and my colleagues announced our arrival, I couldn't help but  be greatly mesmerized at how lovely and so un-commercialized the place was. Most of its facilities are still under development but as you walk through its richly covered with grass pathway, you would feel that it is truly a relaxing and invigorating facility. We all couldn't contain our amazement of the place as we progress through the pathway leading to our cottages. The place feels like the living realization of ever girl's dream vacation. We were enthralled by the simple, spacious and cozy hut where we spent the whole night.

Beautiful people gracing the beauty of Damires Hills Resort (L - R): Mitos, Me, April, Ate Jacque and Kate

Just a few minutes upon our arrival, the truly praise-worthy staff prepared our merienda, which is consisted of pancit, toron, sandwich and orange juice topped with chopped apples. While some friends settled and started to belt their hearts out with songs after songs in the videoke, me and some other friends graced what seems to be an infinity pool. Overlooking the pool is a rice field with several huts and what looks to me a promising space for more relaxing facilities being developed. According to a friend, they're actually in the process of developing a lagoon and hanging bridge. Ah, could they get any more cooler?!!

Lovely Amenity, Facilities and Cheerful Crews

The foods prepared the whole time we stayed in Damires Hills Resort were extremely sumptuous and worth every penny we paid. The crew were so accommodating you would suspect they were trained in some 5-star hotel. Going to the said resort was a truly relaxing experience as we enjoyed taking underwater photos, danced, dined, while some other friends played mahjong's, sang their hearts out and simply relaxed.

Chilling beside the infinity-like pool

Woke up early in the morning and loving the view in our terrace. We then headed to the pool, what a fun way to spend the morning!
